What is a Content Management System
A content management system is a system which allows the customer to update their website without the help of a developer. It makes it easier for non-technical users to add, edit and manage a website. It allows them to add content, keep track of users, make content searchable and more. For example, JB Design Concepts would create a website for you, making you design concepts a reality. Your website would have great content, beautiful images, really good layout, etc. We could then give you the login and password to log in into the content management system we used to create this great site, allowing you to make changes without us.
A content management system stores and organizes files and offers version-controlled access to its data (i.e., giving you, the user, a login and password). The features of a content management system vary greatly. Standard systems usually offer a handful of features which make them easier to create/edit in, while other systems, like enterprise systems, provide more powerful, complex functions. Most content management systems, however, provide web-based publishing, revision control, indexing, search, retrieval and format management.
The content management system has two elements that differentiate it between user and content. The content management application (CMA) is the front-end user interface that allows even a user with limited expertise to add, modify and remove content from the website without the developer. The content delivery application (CDA) aggregates the info and updates the website.
So in essence, again, a content management system gives you the ability to manage and update your ministry or business site after it has been expertly built for you. Training is provided after the site has been launched to use the content management system. We go into detail in a one hour (or longer) training to teach you how to update your own content.
